Home Ownership Program Project Description
The Detroit Housing Commission (DHC) is committed to building opportunities for long-term stability and generational wealth. That commitment is realized through the Scattered Sites Homeownership Program (SSHOP). This critical initiative is designed to align with the existing DHC Homeownership initiative to empower 1,000 new homebuyers over the next five years.
SSHOP provides DHC residents with a robust pathway out of renting by offering access to three core components:
- Quality Housing: Access to diverse and high-quality housing options across Detroit.
- Education: Comprehensive training in financial literacy, credit building, and the home-buying process.
- Financial Assistance: Direct support to help bridge the financial gap and make homeownership achievable.
SSHOP is a sustainable model for community growth. When a home is purchased through the program, the generated sale proceeds are strategically reinvested by DHC to fund new housing developments. This mechanism directly supports the creation of over 250 new units at key locations, including the revitalized Brewster Homes in Brush Park and Sheridan Place on E. Jefferson. By achieving your dream of homeownership through SSHOP, you are not just securing your family's financial future—you are directly contributing to the development of new, quality homes for the broader DHC community.
